W/e 24 Dec 23: GREEN ISLAND CHILL

Where am I?

Latitude: 17°04.5’N

Longitude: 061°40.4’W

Anchored off Reef Restaurant, Green Island, Antigua.

How is the weather?

The usual mix of Caribbean weather. Very calm on Wednesday and Thursday.

What am I feeling?

Feeling happy to have Elizabeth, Patrick and Katie on board now but missing Will & Elin. And comfortable that we have resolved almost all the initial issues on launch. So in summary, relaxed and happy as one ought to be on Christmas Day!

What has happened this week?

Patrick and I went for a short shakedown sail on Tuesday, over the Green Island. We had a lovely one hour sail south towards Guadeloupe with boat speeds of up to 8 knots in 12 to 15 knots of wind from the East. There’s nothing better than a nice sail in flattish water to blow away the cobwebs! Wear emptied our black water tanks and turn for Green Island, part of the Mill Reef Club and a very well protected anchorage. We stayed there overnight and then motored back to Falmouth Harbour to be there to meet Elizabeth off her New York flight.

Patrick and I had rented a car on Monday to pick some items in the Budget Marine chandlery and then do a big provision stop at Epicure in Jolly Harbour – so now we have all the basics taken care of. If we head up to Barbuda in the next few days, we’ll have to see if we can catch some fresh tuna with our new rods.

Katie arrived on Thursday –  along with our new magic boat hook/mooring buoy grabber which we may never use but is a fun toy!

We returned to Green Island on 24th and enjoyed our Christmas lunch ashore at the Reef Restaurant which was a nice surprise as we hadn’t expected it to be open to non-residents of Mill Reef Club.

We’re now all set for tomorrow’s run up to Barbuda.

Fujin Out!
